On March 1, the Lake County YMCA celebrated the Association-wide Kickoff of its annual fundraising effort, the Strong Kids Campaign, which continues throughout the month of March into mid-April.ï¿1/2 The Campaign raises funds to provide membership assistance for children and families in need who otherwise couldnï¿1/2t afford to come to the Y.ï¿1/2 Gifts to the Strong Kids Campaign benefit all the branches of the Lake County YMCA: Central Branch in Painesville, West End Branch in Willoughby, East End Branch in Madison, the Outdoor Family Center in Perry and the Lake County YMCA Childcare Program.
The 13th Annual Strides of March 5K Race and Walk will give participants the opportunity to get out of the house and stretch their legs while benefiting the Deepwood Foundation and Lake County Special Olympians at The Holden Arboretum on Sunday, March 28, beginning at 8:30 AM.
The Strides of March is part of the month-long celebration of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.
The event is expected to raise approximately $7,000, with all the proceeds going to benefit local children and adults with mental retardation and developmental disabilities by advancing the mission of the Deepwood Foundation, the charitable arm for the Lake County Board of (MR)DD.
Spring is almost here and the final registration deadline for the Lake County YMCA Outdoor Family Center Youth Soccer program early registration deadline is March 13; final deadline March 20. The Youth Soccer program teaches basic soccer skills to hundreds of boys and girls ages 4-15 each year.
The YMCA Soccer Program is volunteer driven and focusï¿1/2s on the positive values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility. There are no standings or all-stars. Participants learn about character development in a positive atmosphere through the game of soccer.
at 933 Mentor Avenue in Painesville, will be hosting its 17th Annual Matthew J. Latona Memorial Racquetball Tournament on March 12-13.ï¿1/2 The tournament will consist of advanced, intermediate, beginners, masters (40+), seniors (50+), women, youth, doubles/mixed doubles divisions with matches set by luck of the draw.

All rounds in all divisions are single elimination with matches consisting of two games to 15 points and 11-point tie-breaker. AARA rules apply and WILSON Racquetballs are provided to players. Note: Players losing their prior match are required to officiate and score the next match.

Cost is $15 for a single entry, $30 per team, and an additional $5 if you sign up for more than one division. A Tournament T-shirt, food and beverages are provided to all participants.

ï¿1/2Between 2AM and 3AM the morning of 2/10/10 a pair of coyotes were seen crossing Hunting Lake Drive headed south moving between 7270 Waterfowl Way and the pond. New tracks were seen the AM of 2/11/10 following a similar pattern.
